Crowe River is just a 5-minute walk from the cottage, perfect for a swim, casting a line, or pushing off in a canoe or kayak on calm, clear water. Crowe Lake, the local pride and joy, is a short drive away.
Crystal-clear river swimming with gentle rapids, rocky pools and shady picnic tables, a beloved hot-day spot. Small entry fee; bring water shoes.

Voted Canada’s sweetest bakery, and the cream-filled donuts and apple pie earn it. Go early, the line is part of the legend.
A 300-ft bridge that sways 30 ft above the Trent River gorge, with waterfall views. Free, open year-round, and the gateway into Ferris’s trails.
Over 10 km of easy forest and riverside trails, picnic areas and canoe rentals, gentle enough for the whole family.
Squeaky-fresh curds, local cheeses and ice cream from a beloved co-op just south of town. Perfect for stocking the cottage fridge.

History, minerals & pioneer trails
A flooded open-pit iron mine turned startling turquoise lake, seen from a clifftop platform with history plaques. Short walk from free parking.
A restored 1840s pioneer homestead and conservation area with a working mill, heritage buildings and gentle trails. Lovely for a picnic.
Bigger adventures, an hour or so out
Inventive bean-to-bar chocolate in pretty little Warkworth, a village made for an afternoon wander.
Canada’s largest collection of ancient Indigenous rock carvings, sheltered under glass, plus a rare turquoise lake and trails. Unforgettable.
An hour south: huge freshwater dune beaches at Sandbanks, plus a whole county of wineries, cider and farm tables. A great full day.
